ALTHEA

ALTHEA empowers peri-urban areas to drive climate neutrality, applying the Transition Super Living Lab approach to co-design, test and scale integrated mobility, energy, industry and governance solutions.

ALTHEA

About the project

While cities lead the climate transition through Climate City Contracts, many of the infrastructures and activities that drive emissions and resilience are located beyond city boundaries – along mobility corridors, in logistics hubs, industrial zones and energy systems in peri-urban territories. These areas are not peripheral to the transition; they are essential to making it work.

ALTHEA elevates peri-urban areas at the centre of Europe's transition to climate neutrality. Based on the Transition Super Living Lab (TSLL) approach, the project brings together five TSLLs and three replicator sites – spanning cross-country, cross-region, cross-city and city/peri-urban configurations – to form a shared learning ecosystem where public authorities, industry, research actors and civil society co-design solutions adapted to diverse peri-urban realities.

ALTHEA delivers 59 targeted interventions across four innovation axes: sustainable mobility, connecting peri-urban and urban areas through low-carbon, integrated mobility systems; decarbonised energy systems, boosting local renewable production and smart energy management; zero pollution industry, driving cleaner, circular industrial activity; and cross-sectoral governance, strengthening collaboration across institutions and territories.
