Grand Angouleme (France)
GrandAngoulême is an intercommunal agglomeration of 38 communes anchored on Angoulême in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, southwestern France, with about 142,458 residents over ~644 km² as of 2022. Its territory includes river valleys (Charente) and mixed urban-rural landscapes, shaping mobility planning to balance regional connectivity with local accessibility across varied densities. The agglomération has adopted a Schéma des Mobilités (Mobility Framework) (approved in 2022) as a strategic baseline for sustainable transport, focusing on public transport, walking and cycling, social equity and ecological transition objectives.
This framework will evolve into the Plan de Mobilité integrated into the upcoming Plan Local d’Urbanisme intercommunal valant Plan de Mobilité (PLUi-M), currently undergoing public consultation to guide transport, land use and active mobility provision across the 38 communes. GrandAngoulême promotes multimodal alternatives such as Möbius bus network, electric free shuttles in the city heart, bike-rental services and incentives for cycling and car-pooling, aiming to reduce private car use while improving access for all residents
