Integrated & inclusive planning

Integrated urban mobility planning for creating liveable cities for all citizens.

Integrated planning is crucial to creating sustainable, efficient transport networks and ensuring that mobility is incorporated into broader city development plans and sustainability goals. Applying these integrated planning principles in urban mobility has been conceptualised at European level in the form of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs).

These strategic plans are designed to satisfy the mobility needs of people and businesses across functional urban areas for a better quality of life. It is also crucial that SUMPs help design transport system that serves the mobility needs of the most vulnerable and remote users, maximising accessibility and safety. Effective and inclusive public participation helps ensure this is the case.

The amount of SUMPs has increased annually in Europe. CIVITAS has contributed to this, with multiple projects helping cities in their development, adoption, and implementation.
