Active mobility
Making walking and cycling the preferred travel choices for people in cities.
Getting more people walking and cycling is vital to Europe meeting the sustainability goals outlined in the European Green Deal. As the cleanest and most efficient forms of transport, both provide numerous benefits - improving health, reducing congestion, and generating no air and noise pollution – and are ideally suited to shorter distances.
With nearly half of all car trips covering less than five kilometres, these modes have huge potential for growth if the conditions are right, particularly in urban environments. By creating cycling and pedestrian infrastructure and public spaces that make active mobility safe and attractive, cities become more accessible, healthier, and liveable places for all.
