Smart, Sustainable, Connected and Shared mobility

Establishing the critical link between new user-friendly transport services and decarbonisation.

To mainstream and fasttrack deployment of smart, sustainable, connected and shared urban mobility involving all stakeholders.

The large-scale deployment of a wide range of smart, sustainable, connected and shared mobility solutions and services, enabled by digital technologies such as CCAM, C-ITS, and MaaS, provide a unique opportunity to create impact in cities and for citizens with reference to decarbonisation, air quality, accessibility, use of space, health, social inclusion, and economic opportunities.  Smart applications and ‘Mobility as a Service' (MaaS) solutions already offer user-centric models for completing journeys and trip chaining using sustainable modes.

The transformation of the mobility system in European cities is highly complex because of the large amount of stakeholders, the wide range of barriers for implementation, and the rapid developments in technology and society. What we know today is obsolete tomorrow. Therefore we need a process of ‘learning by doing with multi-stakeholder learning ecosystems that shares lessons learned about what works and what went wrong. By preference public authorities initiate, facilitate or organise this quadruple helix collaboration of governments, industry, research, and citizens. 

Initiatives like CIVITAS support cities in the iterative process of ‘learning by doing in the field of smart, sustainable, connected, and shared mobility services and solutions.
