Smart & connected mobility

Establishing the critical link between new user-friendly transport services and decarbonisation.

The evolution of digital technologies, such as automated vehicles and smart traffic management systems, provides a unique opportunity to establish a critical link between new technologies and services and transport decarbonisation. Smart applications and ‘Mobility as a Service' (MaaS) solutions already offer user-centric models for completing journeys and trip chaining using sustainable modes.

Given long investment cycles for transport capital investment, European cities will be increasingly faced with the competing pull of developing urban transport infrastructure and using cost-effective, new technologies that are continuously evolving. Initiatives like CIVITAS support cities in evaluating innovations in the field of smart mobility services, both in terms of their decarbonisation potential and their urban application.
