Gabrovo (Bulgaria)

Gabrovo, situated in central northern Bulgaria, is committed to sustainable urban mobility. In 2021, the municipality developed and adopted a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, aiming to enhance public transport and reduce carbon emissions.

Key initiatives include the procurement of 14 new buses powered by renewable or alternative energy sources, such as electric and LPG buses, to meet European emission standards. The city also installed 104 electronic scoreboards at bus stops and equipped public transport vehicles with on-board devices to provide real-time arrival information, improving service efficiency.

These efforts contributed to Gabrovo receiving the European Green Leaf Award in 2021, recognizing its dedication to energy efficiency and clean technology.
