Summary
The NOVELOG Toolkit is a decision support tool aiming to assist cities in selecting the most appropriate city logistics measure for implementation in each specific case.
Although each city across the world is unique, there are similarities between cities when considering the logistics parameters affecting the Urban Freight Transport (UFT) environment. In order to help cities identify City Logistics measures and interventions that are suitable to its specific characteristics, the NOVELOG project has developed a tool providing guidance on measure selection.
The NOVELOG Toolkit is based on a large database of previous research and implementation projects undertaken at international and national levels across the EU. The information of these projects and initiatives has been recorded in two important ways: 1) the parameters of the city that affect the UFT environment and 2) the impact of the measures implemented.
The NOVELOG Toolkit has embedded for each case / initiative a set of parameters of the city / area of intervention in relation to UFT, such as the city’s objectives, the problems faced, the morphology, the logistics profile, the UFT markets, the stakeholder groups involved and the nature of implementation.
In addition, the impacts on the environment (CO2 emissions, noise pollution), economy (costs and energy), society (accidents and service level) and mobility (vehicle km, traffic reduction and load factor) are recorded where available.
Good Example
The tool has been used by the cities of the NOVELOG project to identify potential future measures to implement. The toolkit has been available to the public since 5 April 2017 and has been received with interest.
