About the project

European Urban Nodes today need economical, replicable, scalable and resilient mobility schemes to reverse unsustainable trends. Such schemes are also needed to reduce the ownership of private cars and render active and sustainable modes of transport attractive and feasible for inhabitants and visitors.

Within the SCALE-UP project, three urban nodes will develop, implement and finetune a large catalogue of 28 mobility measures to ensure the vertical (governmental) and horizontal (dimensional) upscaling up urban mobility. The strength of the project lies in the geographic and demographic diversity of these cities:

  • Antwerp (Belgium) with 500 thousand inhabitants, and the second-largest metropolitan area of the country
  • Madrid (Spain) with 3.2 million inhabitants is the powerhouse of Spain
  • Turku (Finland) with 200 thousand inhabitants, is the third-largest metropolitan area of Finland

The aim of SCALE-UP is to achieve actual change, nudge travel behaviour and produce replicable urban mobility schemes for follower-cities and towns.

SCALE-UP stands for 'Scale up user-Centric and dAta driven soLutions for connEcted Urban Poles'.
