Barcelona (Spain)

Barcelona, Spain's vibrant capital of Catalonia, is deeply committed to sustainable urban mobility, aiming to enhance transport efficiency while reducing environmental impact. The city has set a goal to achieve an 80% modal share for sustainable transport modes—such as walking, cycling, and public transit—by 2024.

Barcelona's Urban Mobility Plan (PMU) outlines strategic actions to promote non-polluting transport options. A key initiative is the development of an extensive cycling infrastructure, with over 200 km of bike lanes that connect various city areas, encouraging cycling as a primary mode of transport. In addition to cycling, the city has introduced measures to enhance public transportation and reduce private car usage. The Barcelona City Council has presented the Urban Mobility Plan 2025-2030, aiming to decrease private car usage from 19.9% to 15% and increase public transport usage from 34.2% to 37.1% by 2030.
