Stakeholder meetings and smart videos aid programme for safer sustainable school journeys
The Emilia-Romagna Region recently held a stakeholder meeting entitled “Community Planning for Safer Home-School Routes’ for towns in the Emilia-Romagna Region. To help support the meeting and disseminate the measure information to more stakeholders on an ongoing basis, a smart video was also produced (in Italian), and is now available on You Tube.
Attended by 70 elected people, teachers, civil servants, environmental associations and mobility professionals, the stakeholder meeting saw technicians and experts propose strategies and solutions to increase road safety nearby schools with topics being openly debated with audience members. Linked with MIMOSA measures, these initiatives aim to harness the practical and powerful nature of grassroots support to reduce traffic flow generated by parents taking their children to/from school by car and promote sustainable mobility awareness in children. Specifically, the seminar and You Tube smart video aims to communicate the ongoing activities involved in the Mimosa Measure as well as offer ongoing support: - create a synergy between parents’ and children’s daily trips to and from work and school; - boost cycling and walking to school; - implement separated bike lanes and pedestrian crossings; - activate ‘Walk To & From School’ programmes along fixed routes Pedibus; - introduce traffic calming measures. In his presentation on “Integrated & Bottom-up Planning of Infrastructures” Fabio Formentin, director for RER of the Urban Mobility and LPT service, also outlined the potential integration with the MI MUOVO contactless card (the integrated fare and modal system described and supported by the MIMOSA measure) and the new regional bike sharing which is going to be included in the services accessible through the card.
