Koprivnica’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan approved by city council

CIVITAS Initiative

On 23 July 2015 the City council of Koprivnica unanimously approved the city's first Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. The SUMP was developed in scope of the CIVITAS DYN@MO project during an intensive process with different stakeholders, including public participation and through cooperation between all municipal departments. The overall aim of the SUMP is to improve traffic safety while reducing noise and air pollution. Active mobility modes such as walking, cycling and public transport are promoted, as well as the use of electric vehicles.

The most important challenges in Koprivnica's SUMP development were the lack of a mobility planning culture among most of the stakeholders, the unavailability of necessary data and the low level of public participation in the decision-making. City councillors participated in several SUMP workshops in which the already approved action plan for sustainable mobility as part of the earlier taken place project QUEST was the starting point.

The measures defined by the SUMP will be implemented until 2022. The monitoring and evaluation plan have been set up in order to follow the implementation and provide valuable input for the revised version of SUMP after five years.
