The GREEN-LOG project has successfully delivered and demonstrated an integrated suite of innovative digital tools, connected services, and operational concepts that enable a transformative shift towards cleaner, smarter and more collaborative urban logistics.
By combining advanced digital technologies with real-world implementation, GREEN-LOG provides cities, logistics operators and businesses with practical, scalable solutions to reduce emissions, optimise delivery operations, and improve coordination across the logistics ecosystem.
An Integrated Digital Ecosystem for Logistics Transformation
At the heart of GREEN-LOG is a fully integrated digital ecosystem that enables secure data sharing, advanced analytics and real-time operational coordination:
- City Logistics Dataspace – a trusted environment enabling reliable and secure data exchange while preserving data ownership and sovereignty, even for smaller logistics operators
- Augmented Intelligence Modelling Platform (AIMP) – a powerful decision-support system combining demand forecasting, optimisation and simulation to improve planning and daily logistics operations
- Logistics-as-a-Service (LaaS) Marketplace – a flexible platform connecting logistics demand and supply through sustainability-aware and policy-informed services
- Bring-Your-Own-Device (BYOD) – a mobile-enabled solution providing real-time tracking, task management and operational visibility for logistics providers
- Last-Mile Digital Control Tower (LM-DCT) – a centralised platform offering real-time monitoring, analytics and decision-making tools while integrating sustainability measures and city policies
Enhanced by AI and ML capabilities, these solutions transform logistics data into actionable insights, enabling more responsive, efficient and sustainable operations.
Beyond Digital Innovation: Practical Sustainable Logistics Models
In addition to technological innovation, GREEN-LOG demonstrated a range of operational concepts for greener urban logistics, including:
- Micro-consolidation centres
- Cargo-bike delivery systems
- Multimodal logistics involving public transport
- Autonomous delivery solutions
- Shared and collaborative distribution models
These approaches show strong potential for scaling zero-emission delivery systems across European cities.
Demonstrated Impact Across Europe
GREEN-LOG solutions were co-created and validated in five European Living Labs - Athens, Barcelona, Flanders (Leuven, Ghent, Mechelen), Oxfordshire and Ispra - covering a wide range of urban and peri-urban logistics conditions.
From collaborative delivery systems in dense city centres to multimodal logistics using trains, cargo bikes, and autonomous vehicles, GREEN-LOG proved that sustainable logistics solutions can be effectively implemented in real-world conditions.
Real Value Through Integration and Co-Creation
A defining feature of GREEN-LOG is its holistic and co-creation-driven approach.
All solutions were developed collaboratively with logistics operators, public authorities and local stakeholders, ensuring they:
- Address real operational challenges
- Align with local policy and regulatory frameworks
- Achieve high stakeholder acceptance and usability
- Offer strong replication and scalability potential
“GREEN-LOG shows that sustainable urban logistics is not a distant vision, but a practical reality. By combining digital innovation with real collaboration between cities and industry, we have demonstrated solutions that can be implemented and scaled today,” said Amalia Ntemou, Project Manager from the GREEN-LOG Coordination Team.
Enabling the Future of Urban Logistics
GREEN-LOG solutions enable:
- Optimised delivery planning and operations through predictive analytics and real-time monitoring
- Secure and trusted data sharing across logistics ecosystems
- Collaborative logistics models improving efficiency across multiple actors
- Reduced environmental impact through low-emission delivery methods
- Stronger policy integration for sustainable urban mobility
- Scalable and transferable solutions for cities across Europe
Towards Cleaner, Smarter Cities
By delivering tested, real-world solutions with measurable impact, GREEN-LOG provides a blueprint for the future of urban logistics - one that is digital, collaborative and environmentally sustainable.
The project’s results demonstrate that integrated data-driven systems and cooperative delivery models are key enablers of climate-neutral and efficient cities.
