CIVITAS FORUM and CIVITAS I FINAL CONFERENCE 2005

CIVITAS Initiative

The annual forum of the most innovative European cities implementing sustainable transport and mobility solutions. Meeting and exchange between political and technical leaders of the European Commission and major cities in Europe (43 cities, and also more than 20 countries) on best practice and integrated actions to achieve innovative and sustainable urban mobility solutions.

The CIVITAS FORUM 2005 and the CIVITAS I FINAL CONFERENCE was held in the city of Nantes on 2. – 4. November 2005. The 2005 CIVITAS Forum addressed the broad range of political, cultural and financial issues arising when progressing from “theory” to “practice” in the integration of sustainable transport policies. The contemporary wrap up of CIVITAS I and the kick-off of CIVITAS II renders the event all the more timely and appealing. Hence, the CIVITAS Forum 2005 provided all members with the unique opportunity to participate to a stimulating confrontation between experienced cities eager to share their knowledge and incoming cities eager to learn and discuss barriers and enablers to the integration of sustainable transport policies. The innovative, positive and future-oriented closing words were held by Mr Jacques Barrot, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner responsible for Transport as well as the presentation of the CIVITAS Awards 2005 and the host-city of the CIVITAS FORUM 2006 – Burgos. The FINAL CONFERENCE of CIVITAS I supplied a great occasion to learn more on the innovative measures, technologies and infrastructures set out by the CIVITAS I cities. The event placed the accent on the results thus far achieved by the CIVITAS Initiative and presented participants with the chance to informally discuss technical aspects of policy implementation directly with the CIVITAS I experts.
