Several CIVITAS member cities and initiatives have been recognised at the European Mobility Week Awards 2025, highlighting the network’s continued leadership in advancing sustainable, inclusive and people-centred urban mobility across Europe.

Presented by the European Commission in Brussels on 17 March 2026, the awards celebrate outstanding achievements in promoting behavioural change towards cleaner and more active transport.

Among this year’s winners, CIVITAS member Riga (Latvia) received the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award 2025 for its dynamic and inclusive approach to sustainable mobility. The Latvian capital impressed the jury with a diverse programme of activities combining education, community engagement and creativity. Initiatives ranged from temporary pedestrian zones and themed cycling events such as the “Tweed Ride,” to public transport-focused activities and mobility challenges involving schools and families. These efforts were reinforced by permanent measures, including expanded cycling infrastructure and 30 km/h zones, contributing to safer and more liveable streets.

CIVITAS member Limassol (Cyprus) was recognised as one of the finalists for the same award, reflecting its growing commitment to sustainable urban mobility. Its presence among the top candidates highlights the increasing role of CIVITAS cities in shaping innovative mobility solutions tailored to local contexts while contributing to broader European goals.

The jury also awarded a special mention to CIVITAS member Braga (Portugal), acknowledging its consistent excellence and long-term commitment to sustainable mobility. A previous winner of the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK Award in 2022, Braga has continued to build on its success through a combination of awareness-raising campaigns and structural improvements. Its initiatives promoting walking, cycling and shared mobility have delivered tangible benefits for residents while reinforcing its position as a leading example within the CIVITAS community.

CIVITAS representation was further reflected in the MOBILITYACTION Award category, where Eskişehirspor Kulübü, based in Eskişehir (Türkiye), a CIVITAS city, was named as a finalist. The initiative demonstrates how organisations beyond local authorities - including sports institutions - can play an important role in promoting sustainable mobility and engaging wider audiences in behavioural change.

The MOBILITYACTION Award 2025 was awarded to the Autonomous Province of Bolzano/Bozen – South Tyrol for its innovative integration of sustainable transport into tourism through the Südtirol Alto Adige Guest Pass, enabling visitors to travel seamlessly using public transport while reducing congestion and emissions.

In total, more than 2,700 towns and cities from 46 countries participated in European Mobility Week in 2025, alongside over 900 registered activities from businesses, institutions and civil society organisations. As highlighted by Comissioner for Transport and Tourism, Apostolos Tzitzikostas, these initiatives demonstrate how mobility systems can become more inclusive, accessible and community-oriented when people are placed at the centre of planning.

The strong presence of CIVITAS members among this year’s winners and finalists underlines the network’s impact in driving forward sustainable urban mobility across Europe, demonstrating how cities and organisations of all sizes can contribute to cleaner, safer and more connected communities.
