Braga (Portugal)

Braga, located in northern Portugal, is actively pursuing sustainable mobility initiatives to enhance urban livability and reduce environmental impact. The city's Sustainable Mobility Plan emphasizes pedestrian, cycling, and public transport, with physical transformations in public spaces to support these modes. Braga has replaced 60% of its public transport fleet with electric and natural gas vehicles, aiming for a 13% reduction in emissions per traveled distance. Additionally, the city is replacing all public lighting with LED lamps and promoting renewable energy communities.

In 2022, Braga won the EUROPEANMOBILITYWEEK'S 'Sustainable Mobility Award' for its efforts, including the School Bus project, expanded cycle paths, new bicycle parking, and the modernization of the public transport fleet.
