Implementing sustainable mobility
The city of Klaipeda is a major transportation hub in Lithuania and is attractive for local and foreign investments, especially for the developers of multimodal logistics and freight distribution centers. The expansion of Klaipeda’s port led to growth in freight transport in the city.
In 2014, a feasibility study for the modernisation of the current Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) was prepared, proposing three future development scenarios, which would allow more efficient management of transport flows in major arterial streets and ease the movement of public transport.
As part of this measure, a study and modelling of traffic flows of heavy-duty vehicles, privately-owned cars, and public transport will be implemented in order to define the traffic management system. Implementation of the measure would integrate sustainable mobility principles into the traffic management system.
