Become a CIVITAS City
Cities that become CIVITAS members join a thriving community of over 380+ peers committed to smart and sustainable mobility. Membership is free and open to all who sign the CIVITAS City Declaration, are a part of a CIVINET or are involved in a CIVITAS project.

Being a CIVITAS member and active within the community offers a multitude of advantages.
1. International exchange for local impact
Connect with other cities to share challenges, expertise and best practices, so as to help reach the smart and sustainable mobility goals established in your city.
2. Increased visibility
Showcase mobility innovation and progress happening in your city by being featured on the CIVITAS website, social media channels and in the MOVE newsletter.
3. EU policy engagement
Contribute a local perspective to EU mobility policy via the CIVITAS Politicians Exchange Forum (PEF) - a group consisting of politicians from CIVITAS Cities and mobility stakeholders from across Europe.
4. Recognition of excellence
Inspire other cities by having the mobility progress in your city celebrated at CIVITAS flagship events, and have priority when applying to prestigious programmes, like the CIVITAS Replication and Deployment Programme.
Becoming a CIVITAS City
To become a member, cities should be committed to introducing an approach to urban mobility policy that aligns with the sustainable, inclusive and integrated ideals fostered by the CIVITAS Initiative.
This commitment is shown by having a local politician with executive power, such as Councillor or (Vice) Mayor, sign the CIVITAS City Declaration. With this in mind, follow these easy steps to become a member:
- Download the CIVITAS City Declaration.
- Complete and sign the CIVITAS City Declaration.
- Send the CIVITAS City Declaration to the CIVITAS Secretariat at secretariat [at] civitas [dot] eu
Once the CIVITAS City Declaration has been reviewed and approved, your city will receive a copy of the declaration and welcome package from the CIVITAS Secretariat.
It is completely free to become a CIVITAS City!
