International Conference - The Future of E-Ticketing Through Technology Application. Articulating Traveller Information, Interoperability and NFC

BOLOGNA - ATC CONFERENCE HALL, VIA SALICETO 3, Belgium

OtherCIVITAS Initiative

Aimed at focusing on the application of brand new IT technologies for the improvement of mobility services, the event was organised by ATC, Emilia-Romagna Region, Calypso Assoc, ATM Ravenna under the framework of CIVITAS MIMOSA. New IT technologies, especially those linked up to the use of mobile phones, offer great innovative opportunities. The so-called NFC (Near Field Communication) is compatible with ISO standard which has been chosen for ticketing. In particular, it allows travellers to use their phones as a ticket and to buy last minute tickets otherwise known as (ATAWAD e-ticketing)i.e. AnyTime, AnyWhere, AnyDevice. For transport operators and transit authorities this represents also a concrete way for cutting the sale operation costs.Additionally, the NFC phone offers a wide field of applications in traveller information, such as real time guidance, tags in the city, at bus stops and tourism information, etc. Mobile phones are not the only devices that can innovate services dedicated both to customers and operators. Internet reloading, USB keys, contactless EMVCO bank cards, tags also offer innovative solutions. The conference in Bologna, followed by a second meeting scheduled in Ravenna on the May 21st, highlighted all these issues along with news on the recently introduced integrated electronic bus and train ticketing STIMER system, which is part of the wider MI MUOVO project in the Emilia Romagna Region. The conference also gave the opportunity to take part, for the first time in Italy, in an on field demonstration of a Post phone with NFC function in Public Transport. Finally, a new mode to use ticketing data and passenger counting technologies was shown. Please you can kindly find in attachment a very short report about the event.
