Vila Nova de Famalicão (Portugal)

Mobility plays an ever-growing role at the public policy level in Vila Nova de Famalicão, providing universal, safe, and sustainable mobility. The aim is to develop an integrated mobility policy approach that highlights the modernisation of road infrastructure, the improvement of public transport services, the qualification of soft means of transport, and the increase of accessibility conditions for all.

In Vila Nova de Famalicão, it is deemed fundamental to have adequate mobility management, promoting not only soft measures, such as informing and communicating, providing services, or coordinating activities, but also hard or infrastructural measures such as modernising the road infrastructures. This last measure will improve the accessibility conditions of the territory as well as the quality of life of the population.

Other hard measures that the municipality is willing to implement are the modernisation of the network of public transportation so that it meets the population's mobility needs and the encouragement of soft means of transport that contribute to stimulating cycling and walking. To achieve this last goal the municipality is creating new cycling paths, implementing a bicycle-sharing system, and increasing the number of bicycle parking among other strategies to change mobility habits included in the Action Plan for Active Mobility of the city.
