Lamia (Greece)
The Municipality of Lamia constitutes a key-reference point in Central Greece, on an administrative, commercial and industrial level, characterized by its unique geographical diversity and rich cultural heritage. The Municipality of Lamia envisages carbon-neutral solutions as the only way forward to achieve the transition into a sustainable, prosperous, modern, competitive, and climate-neutral economy for the city and the EU in general.
Therefore, the Municipality prioritizes particular themes in the demand and supply space to support its transition into a carbon-neutral city, such as sustainable and green mobility, the development of efficient, low-cost, and configurable renewable energy supplies, turning public buildings into NZEB, circular economy, smart waste management, and sustainable cultural heritage.
In order to achieve all of these goals, the Municipality has been an active member and supporter of the European Covenant of Mayors initiative, implementing a concrete and integrated Strategic Energy Action Plan as well as a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, which describes explicit measures for reducing energy consumption and emissions on a city level, facilitating the undertaking of sustainable development projects in the Municipality and coordinating and raising awareness among citizens and local stakeholders about resilience, circular economy, sustainable urban mobility, and environmental protection.
