Heraklion (Greece)
Heraklion is the administrative capital of Crete and one of the Mediterranean region's most vibrant cities. Currently, there are efforts to open up the medieval city centre, which is but one reminder of its status as an island full of history. Heraklion is an important shipping port and ferry dock. There are various ferries and boats from Heraklion that go to destinations including Santorini, Ios Isand, Paros, Mykonos, and Rhodes. Moreover, there are a number of buses serving the city and connecting it to many major destinations in Crete.
