Grasse (France)

Grasse is a historic town of around 44,000 inhabitants in southeastern France’s Alpes-Maritimes, perched inland from the Côte d’Azur with hills and valleys that influence mobility planning and travel patterns. Sustainable mobility in Grasse and the wider Pays de Grasse intercommunal territory is guided by the Plan de Déplacements Urbains (PDU) approved in 2019, which provides a SUMP-equivalent framework covering walking, cycling, public transport and shared mobility for the 23-commune area. The Maison de la Mobilité serves as a one-stop hub near the Pôle intermodal (bus + TER rail + park-and-ride), offering e-bike rentals, secure bike parking, route advice and multimodal information to encourage shifts away from private cars.

Investments include expanded cycle infrastructure, support for covoiturage, electric vehicle charging and a future Bus Express (Bus à Haut Niveau de Service) to link Grasse with Mouans-Sartoux using dedicated lanes and electrified buses. These initiatives are embedded in broader Plan Climat Air Énergie Territorial (PCAET) goals to cut emissions and improve quality of life.
