Cassino (Italy)
Cassino is a city of 33,000 inhabitants, located at the foot of Monte Cairo. It is 120 km east of Rome, and is best known for the Abbey of Montecassino and as the site of the Battle of Monte Cassino during World War II. The city faces regular congestion, particularly on those roads leading into the city center.
There is no data available on modal split, and nothing has been retrieved concerning its urban mobility measures or plans, challenges or partnerships.
Internet sources reveal that during World War II, Cassino’s old town was almost completely destroyed and was rapidly rebuilt southeast of its prior location. Because of this, and despite the recent construction of several roads and roundabouts, the town retains a somewhat disorderly road network. Commercial development has seen the construction of several shopping centres within the town’s environs which have increased traffic congestion, particularly on those roads leading into the city.
