Summary

The International Cycling Community of Practice (ICCOP), developed in the context of the CIVITAS Handshake project, connects practitioners in the cycling community. Now, pracittioners can use the ICCOP self-assessment tool to establish local competencies related to diverse topics, such as:

  • Linking the different parts of the cycling network together to work as a whole
  • Offering direct bicycle routes between main destination points
  • Increasing separation and perceived safety of cyclists and other street users
  • Integrating cycling infrastructure into wider surroundings
  • Communicating and marketing cycling
  • Encouraging cycling proficiency across the general population, and to specific groups (children, elderly, etc.)
  • Engaging the cycling community in impactful advocacy
  • Discussing and considering cycling in political agendas
  • Embedding cycling into long-term and strategic documentation for planning and delivery
  • Investing financially in local cycling
  • Collecting data and knowledge to understand and monitor cycling conditions
