Smart City Expo World Congress (SCEWC), is a leading international event on cities and smart urban solutions. It will be hosted in Barcelona from 7-9 November 2023 under the theme “Welcome to the New Urban Era”. With over 1,000 exhibitors and 25,000 attendees from 140+ countries, the 2023 edition is expected to be the largest yet.

The event highlights innovative urban solutions and projects that focus on strategies to transform current metropolises into more sustainable, efficient, and livable spaces.

Along with twenty-nine other European Commission Initiatives focused on Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, the CIVITAS Initiative will host a booth in the Exhibition hall. The Initiatives will be united by a common goal: to accelerate the implementation of sustainable urban solutions in alignment with the EU Green Deal and REPowerEU plan at the local level.

The CIVITAS Initiative will co-host a session at the booth on 8 November, from 10:00-12:00, under the title, "Matching needs with smart cities solutions: cities, businesses and investors together to accelerate climate action”. Co-hosts include the Covenant of Mayors Europe, the European City Facility and the Smart Cities Marketplace.

CIVITAS will then host a solo session at the booth on 8 November, from 15:00-16:30, under the title, "CIVITAS: Mobility Solutions That Inspire". This session will consist of a panel discussion and Q&A divided into four segments:

  • Intro from Project Coordinator – summarise the purpose, legacy, overview of ongoing projects, key activities for 2023-2027; poll of audience interaction with / perception of CIVITAS
  • Support for practitioners – focus on market readiness assessments and solutions catalogue; touch on forthcoming project fiches and capacity building activities
  • Support for CIVITAS cities  – focus on activities of project clusters (SPINE > Public Transport; URBANE > Urban Freight & Logistics) and CIVINETs (e.g. annual planning)
  • Support for the broader community – focus on building synergies across sectors (e.g. NMS) and with related initiatives/organisations at the European and global scales (e.g. Cities Mission, Sustainable Mobility Collective)

And last but not least, the CIVITAS Initiative will host its own timeslot at the Networking island on 8 November from 15:00-16:30.

If you will be attending the Smart City Expo World Congress, be sure to stop by and engage with CIVITAS. See you there!
