Zagreb organises series of citizen engagement workshops

CIVITAS Initiative

CIVITAS ELAN partners in Zagreb have been busy, holding a series of citizen engagement workshops in September and October. The latest took place on 18 October and focused on citizen engagement in the process of planning and implementation of CIVITAS ELAN measures.

The trainers Milena Marega from the Regional Environmental Centre (REC, Ljubljana) and Lidija Pavić-Rogošić from ODRAZ - Sustainable Community Development (Zagreb) talked about how to contribute to the success of measures regarding citizen engagement. They discussed what the benefits and potential risks of citizen engagement are, the process of a planned approach, who to include in the process, the importance of political support, success indicators and the most frequent obstacles and challenges. Afterwards participants worked in groups to develop a plan for citizen engagement on different measures. Groups focused on four measures: The study on congestion charging and dialogue on pricing, Improving cycling conditions, Safety & security for seniors and Freight delivery restrictions. In September 2010 two workshops on citizen engagement were organised: Culture of dialogue and How to achieve better communication between partners. ODRAZ - Sustainable Community Development organised and carried out the workshops. Partners working on CIVITAS ELAN discussed communication problems between each other and problems regarding the implementation of CIVITAS ELAN measures in Zagreb. Each partner presented his measure and experienced problems, the entire group then suggested solutions.
