Walk to school week in Monza

CIVITAS Initiative

The Walk to School Week will take place in Monza on 5-9 October 2009 and the pupils of 45 nurseries, primary and secondary schools will participate. The schools can win new books for the libraries, if the pupils are travelling sustainable from home to school. The prize will be given to the two schools per district that have the higher percentage of virtuous pupils.

The Walk to School Week is a successful event all over the world and Monza is the Italian coordinator of the organisation International Walk to School , since it was the first city in Italy to organise Walk to School Events in 2001. These events are growing in citizens’ attention year by year. Among the ARCHIMEDES measures in Monza the Municipality is responsible for the development and implementation of a Walking Bus Route and the participatory design of School Travel Plans, for this reason supporting the Walk to School Week is another way to raise awareness of travel behavior for journeys to school and the benefits of more sustainable forms of mobility to reduce local congestion and transport pollutant emissions.
