Vitoria-Gasteiz Mobility Week 2010 focuses on bicycles

CIVITAS Initiative

This year the Mobility Week will focus on the mobility by bicycle, and there will be several activities from September 16 - 22 September. The main motto will be “Smarter trips, better lives”.

This year’s program includes several training actions in the neighbourhoods, the third Olagibel tour by bike, which seeks to make people aware of the architectural heritage of Vitoria-Gasteiz and another tour by bike visiting the ecological vegetable gardens of the Green Belt.As the main objective this year is to promote the use of the bicycle, bike riding courses for adults and elder people have been organised in three neighbourhood Civic Centres, together with two dialogues about the relationship between the bicycle and the city, and the impact of the bicycle in the health. The Town Hall also wants to attract more people to the city’s car pooling project. This project was launched to promote more rational use of the private car among the citizens. Finally, the final day, 22 September, there will be several activities in the Sancho el Sabio street on the occasion of the “In town without my car!” day.The programme for this day includes dialogues about sustainable mobility, e-mobility (e-bikes and e-cars) exhibition, informative stands with information about the bicycle registration system, the bicycle route planner, the public transport network, cycling and health and a road safety circuit for children.
