The Habitat II Conference aimed to discuss ideas and specify commitments by the various members of the United Nations to improve the environment and livelihood of the inhabitants of an increasingly urbanised planet. The initiative focused on engaging with cities. It analysed economic and social changes, addressing problems and opportunities, and seeking new approaches in planning urban policies, management tools and performance, according to the new requirements of sustainability.
