The new App promoting collective passenger transport
EMPOWER ICT Tools are ready to use
A new App SMART (Self-Motivated And Rewarded Travelling) to promote use of collective passenger transport by commuters, city visitors, event visitors and shoppers in a smarter, more environmentally friendly way is now available!
Designed to optimise travel behaviour in a human-centred approach, the SMART App, developed under the EMPOWER project uses gamification and personalised information to reward certain travel patterns and behaviour and thereby reduce the use of conventionally fuelled vehicles (CFV) in cities.
SMART users can collect points by taking more sustainable transport decisions e.g. choosing to take the bus or tram instead of the car, or to cycle/walk for more points, which can in turn be converted into cash donations for charity or discount vouchers for local products and services.
Users can also take on challenges and team up with friends, to earn even more points.
Based on user preferences and travel patterns, SMART proposes cheaper or more sustainable modes of transport, and helps users to avoid traffic jams and save time and money - every day.
A calorie calculator and a CO2 meter, allows users to track how much carbon dioxide they have saved and how their fitness is improving whilst travelling sustainably.
The SMART App is one of three free tools developed by the EMPOWER project, which combines empirical research with practical implementation in four Living Lab Cities and seven Take-Up Cities and Communities. The SMART App is available for iOS and Android phones.
