The 2006 CIVITAS Forum

CIVITAS Initiative

The CIVITAS Forum 2006 will be hosted by the Spanish city of Burgos on 25-27 September 2006. This year’s CIVITAS Forum will again bring together the CIVITAS Community for an annual meeting. Cities are the centres of Europe’s economy, but are faced with ever increasing transport problems. Innovative solutions for urban transport are required, and CIVITAS is central to a reorientation of urban transport policy for cities. Therefore this year’s Forum is entitled: “Cities in Motion: Towards a New Role for Cities in European Transport Policy”.

It provides a good occasion to network, obtain information and exchange ideas on integrated strategies for clean urban transport, both at political and practical levels.A special information session on future funding opportunities offered by European programmes will take place on 25th September 2006. The Forum provides a good occasion to network and to exchange information on integrated strategies for clean urban transport, both at political and at practical level. The Forum will focus on issues directly relevant to policy making and implementation at the local level. Participants will benefit from the practical experience of experts from the Europe’s leading cities in this field. In view of a new CIVITAS call for proposals announced by Mr. Barrot, Vice-president of the European Commission, for the year 2007, the event will be of special interest for those cities that aim at becoming future CIVITAS demonstration cities.
