Sustainable initiatives in Brescia’s central square

CIVITAS Initiative

In June a new vehicular traffic programme was launched in Brescia's main city square, Piazzale Arnaldo da Brescia. Piazzale Arnaldo is the most lively place and young people especially love this spot. During the summer season it becomes a very busy area as people spend time in the square hanging out with friends and colleagues. The city sees planning and reorganising the square as an opportunity as well as an important priority.

On Friday and Saturday evening, the square becomes a large and welcoming pedestrian area. A complete programme of entertainment events has been planned. Stands have been placed into the area to inform on sustainable mobility in the city. The initiative was the perfect opportunity to inform citizens about the CIVITAS measures currently in progress. It also created important awareness-raising momentum among young people. Car-sharing schemes, bike sharing "Bicimia" and the subway were presented to citizens.
