Held on 5/6 July 2016 in parallel with the PAC meeting, the event looked at short to long-distance transport integration.
Over 30 participants from different European cities took part the study tour and thematic workshop LINKING TERRITORIES: LONG TO SHORT DISTANCE CO-MODALITY. Organised by CIVITAS WIKI and the Municipalities of Parma and Reggio Emilia, the two-days event involved local politicians, city officials and practitioners from the CIVITAS Thematic Groups Collective Passenger Transport and Integrated Planning.
Parma showed its renovated railway station, an intermodal hub combining cycling facilities and an interurban bus station. Participants also visited the monitoring centre of the on-demand/flexible public transport services and travelled on a 18 m trolleybus that will be used on a new high-frequency line (the north-south axis). This line was inspired by the Nantes’ Chronobus, a solution that Parma replicated after a CIVITAS study tour in 2015.
Reggio Emilia showed its high speed train station Mediopadana, designed by the architect Santiago Calatrava. The city also hosted the workshop where interesting experiences also from Porto (Portugal) and Ticino (Switzerland) were presented. Â
The presentations of the workshop are available on the event page
