It is widely acknowledged that intelligent transport systems are useful in assisting public bodies in their transport management tasks. However, it is not always easy for decision makers to select the most appropriate measure given the absence of a simple method for comparing the strengths and weaknesses of the different measures.
Within the EU-funded project CONDUITS, more than 30 cities from the EU and beyond contributed to the definition of 13 KPIs across the main transport policy areas of traffic efficiency, pollution reduction, road safety, social inclusion and land use. Selected KPIs were then tested in Paris, Rome, Munich, Tel Aviv-Yafo and Ingoldstadt.
Building on these KPIs, a decision support tool (DST) has been developed to help decision makers understand what will be the likely wider impact(s) of a particular measure. The tool can predict both the pollution and traffic efficiency (reliability and mobility) impacts of a particular traffic management measure and/or ITS technology. CONDUITS-DST is currently being extended to road safety and social inclusion. >> more information
