Planning for sustainable parking with stakeholders

The city of Ghent works out an ambitious, innovative and sustainable parking plan. It is absolutely vital that all stakeholder are involved in this planning process. On 16 February 2012, the Mobility Company organised a brainstorming session with several project developers in Ghent.

Project developers really can make a difference. That is why they were presented with several new sustainable measures on parking issues. The purpose of this brainstorming session was to get their feed back, comments and their own ideas, as well as to raise awareness for a more sustainable parking policy. It is very important for the city of Ghent to know the vision and concerns of project developers. The city will hopefully learn which measures will be supported and which measures are less acceptable. For the project developers it’s a great opportunity to express their vision on a sustainable parking management. Which kind of innovation does Gent envisage? Increase bicycle parking spots in new developments; Double the use of parking spaces; Joined car parks; Tighter parking ratios; Review the parking pricing; and Integration of Cambio, the car sharing organisation More information on the workshop and the sustainable parking plan can be obtained from the Mobility Company City Of Gent: Jan [dot] gheldof [at] gent [dot] be or heleen [dot] vaneenoo [at] gent [dot] be.
