New park & ride facilities in Vitoria-Gasteiz

CIVITAS Initiative

Six new park & ride sites have been developed in Vitoria-Gasteiz to improve the public transport network. Previously people coming from outside the city had to pay for a regulated car park service to access the city centre, increasing the amount of cars moving through the urban centre.

Two main measures have been introduced in order to achieve the important target of creating a more efficient use of urban transport service: The new public bus transport system developed in 2009 was pre-emptively based on the planned P&R facilities. Several bus lines were extended and some bus stations were built close to the P&R spots. Six new P&R areas have been installed with a massive capacity - nearly 5.000 parking spaces. The approaching roads have been conveniently signposted and information about public transport has been placed in these car parks.
