New CIVITAS PROSPERITY Innovation Briefs out now

CIVITAS PROSPERITY stands for innovation. And as such, the project offers insights to interesting topics via its Innovation Briefs that are relevant for making SUMPs more attractive, more up-to-date and more effective. The two latest CIVITAS PROSPERITY Innovation Briefs are now available: 'Placemaking Strategies and SUMPs', as well as 'Children as active stakeholders in the process of city transformation'.

The project’s goal is to get more cities to implement Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs) by providing mechanisms and tools for national and regional agencies to lead the development of SUMPs in participating countries. Therefore, all innovation aspects are also an integral part of the various training activities, which CIVITAS PROSPERITY offers in different countries.

The two latest CIVITAS PROSPERITY Innovation Briefs are now available here.

Placemaking Strategies and SUMPs

Placemaking is an approach to planning where people are engaged in a collaborative process to bring social life to public spaces through affordable, human-scale, and near-term changes. It is a good ally of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMP). Its participatory philosophy is in line with SUMP principles and the use of Lighter, Quicker, Cheaper (LQC) approaches allows to make quick transformations to illustrate the desired changes and gain support for future developments. Children as active stakeholders in the process of city transformation

It is time to give back part of the public space to children to support their social, cognitive, and emotional development. Currently, most public space is occupied by motorised vehicles. Another CIVITAS project, CIVITAS METAMORPHOSIS, is starting to use the immense potential of such spaces and is seeking to transform them with the needs of children in mind. Its motto is to give people back the spaces currently dominated by vehicles. Download here the full Innovation Brief for free.
