Two new e-courses have launched as part of CIVITAS’ capacity-building for urban transport professionals. These courses – which cover Urban Vehicle Access Regulations (UVARs) and enabling cycling success – are now available on the CIVITAS Learning Centre.

Urban Vehicle Access Regulations: principles and practices

Join this course to learn about key approaches to UVAR, and how to implement such regulations in your city. UVARs include traffic restriction (or regulation) schemes, traffic bans, low-emission zones, and limited traffic zones. By implementing such schemes you can successfully increase the attractiveness and sustainability of your city. No matter where you are located in the world, UVARs can be applied across all contexts.

This course will help mobility professionals achieve local ambitions more efficiently and effectively. In particular, e-course participants will focus on how UVARs can: reduce major transport challenges; increase sustainable mobility with a focus on active modes like walking and cycling; and increase liveability to make your city a more attractive place in which to work, visit, and spend time. Furthermore, the course will illuminate how implementing UVARs for these purposes will also contribute to reaching climate, air quality, road safety, noise and sustainability objectives.

In short, participants will:

  • better understand a number of key UVARs and their relevance;
  • learn how selected UVARs have been applied in real-life examples;
  • discover tools to support you to develop your own UVAR; and
  • learn how to apply all learnings via a practical “low traffic zone” case.

This course has been developed by DTV Capacity Building as part of CIVITAS ELEVATE, in cooperation with CIVITAS ReVeAL.

Enabling cycling success

Why would (or should) you want to increase cycling in your city? This is the first question explored in the new e-course on Enabling Cycling Success. Course participants will furthermore discover three key elements to make cycling a success in your city – namely planning and priorities; transition management; and providing evidence of cycling’s benefits. With a handle on these three key elements, you can successfully start increasing the share of cycling in your city and become more sustainable. No matter where you are located in the world, these elements are relevant to every situation!

Participants will gain insights regarding the three key success factors to increase cycling. This will, in turn, provide participants with increased credibility; better cycling strategies, policies and plans; and greater abilities to overcome barriers and foster acceptance for such plans.

After completion of this course, participants will:

  • understand the three key elements and their relevance; and will
  • understand how the elements have been applied in real-life examples.

This course has been developed by DTV Capacity Building as part of CIVITAS ELEVATE, in cooperation with CIVITAS Handshake.
