MODERN's 3rd Technical Board Meeting

MODERN&#8217 s 3rd Technical Board Meeting, held in Coimbra on 5-7 May, has ended successfully with the participation of the City authorities of Coimbra and the board of SMTUC (Municipal Urban Transport Services of Coimbra).

The meeting, consisting of three days of parallel sessions on the evaluation and dissemination aspects, served different functions and objectives. It provided all the partners with an overview of the evolution of works in the four cities since the start of the MODERN project and facilitated the coordination of the activities of the cities and the organization of the next steps to follow. On the last day, the national and local media has been invited to attend a press conference on the objectives and achievements of the MODERN consortium. Besides all the partners of the MODERN project, the press conference was also attended by the Vice - President of the Chamber, Eng. Joao Rebelo, the President of the Board of STMUC, Manuel Rebanda and the CEO of SMTUC, Manuel da Oliveira. During the conference, the Project Technical Manager of the Project, Marco Mastretta, gave an overview of the project and it&#8217 s main objectives with a focus on it&#8217 s integrated approach. Luis Santos, the Site Coordinator of Coimbra, gave a brief description of the measures adopted in the city and how they are being implemented. Maurizio Tommassini, the Project Evaluation Manager, stressed the importance of cooperation between cities and the significance of comparing the different situations of urban mobility in order to gain field experiences that can be assessed and evaluated. Finally, Karin Fischer, the Project Dissemination Manager, underlined the importance of communication to give emphasis to the great investment done at the local level, which would be meaningless if not conveyed to the other cities of the European Union. The next meeting of the MODERN consortium will be held in Vitoria on 22 - 23 September and will be attended by the Deputy Mayor of Coimbra.
