Is congestion charging for Zagreb?

CIVITAS Initiative

In the third of a series of round tables, CIVITAS ELAN invited experts to ZgForum on 10 April 2012 to discuss congestion charging for Zagreb.

Like many cities around the world, Zagreb is facing a drastic increase in vehicle ownership. The impact of more and more traffic is taking its toll on the quality of the city and the environment. Zagreb knows that it is paramount to address this issue. One of the measures cities all over the world take to tackle this problem are different models of congestion charging. Over the past three-and-a-half years, CIVITAS ELAN has raised the question whether congestion charging can be applied in Zagreb. To this end, the ELAN team invited experts to a round table to discuss issues surrounding congestion charging in Zagreb. Most of the experts were from the Faculty of Traffic and Transport Science. They looked at air quality and the traffic situation in Zagreb, presented models of congestion charging that could work for Zagreb and possible obstacles for the implementation of such a scheme.
