Green collaborative spirit alive and kicking amongst Funchal’s tourism partners

CIVITAS Initiative

Green Line, Funchal’s new Westbound public transport service is now fully in service, and is providing a win-win solution for both tourists and urban mobility.

Many of Funchal's roads are much more than mere transport stretches. The Green Line route, in particular, winds its way through beautiful cliffs, offering fantastic views and access to historical landmarks, making it a big favourite with tourists.Council measures have been put in place to ensure hotel managers and their establishments are at the forefront of a greener solution. One specific protocol was to encourage hotels to use the attractive public transport service rather than providing their own courtesy buses. As a result, the 4 Star Hotel Monumental Lido Four Views has now signed up to the public transport service and hopefully more will follow. Hotels who sign up to the new initiative will be given a tailored-made ‘Tourist Pack’ for their residents, including a ticket personalised with the hotel name, as well as information on the most exciting and interesting spots to visit throughout the cityNot only is this initiative proving to be an attractive and efficient way of encouraging new sustainable mobility habits, it is sending out a clear message to tourists that Madeira is a high quality and environmentally friendly destination.
