First German fully electric bus tested on a line in Aachen
The first (and only) fully electric articulated bus of German origin will now be tested on the streets of Aachen.
In the past months, ASEAG, the public transport operator in Aachen, has rebuilt a hybrid articulated bus, manufactured by the German company EvoBus (Mercedes Benz), to an electric bus - within the CIVITAS DYN@MO measure "Integration of hybrid buses – towards a clean fleet in public transport".
Together with the supplier of batteries, "Futavis" from Aachen, a battery pack with a capacity of about 180 kilowatts has been installed in the bus. More than 1,100 battery cells in a modular design were distributed between front and rear chassis to give the bus the corresponding driving force.
The upcoming test weeks will tell if the vehicle proves to be successful on the road.
