Exterior design makes Porto’s Mobility Shop a success

CIVITAS Initiative

The city of Porto has changed the exterior design of the mobility shop last month. With this reformulation, the number of visitors rose to more than double, reaching, in a few days, about 70 visitors. After opening the Mobility Shop, in September last year, and following the local population surveys, it was found that people knew the infrastructure but they didn’t know what kind of service available there. Now, with new decoration, is easily visible from outside the type of service and information available.

The mobility shop is developing the typical on-store mobility management tasks like multi modal transport information and advisement. The main idea is to influence travel behaviour by providing mobility information towards people (campaigns, expositions, brochures, special activities, web site management, special events) and at the same time get feedback and work as a constant observatory of the mobility issues within the area (mobility and satisfaction, surveys, suggestion centre and other actions). The Mobility Shop is sustaining innovative services by providing logistical support to them The measure predicts the implementation of a DRT bus service, car-pooling scheme and bike rental that will use the Mobility Shop as their reference to the users of these services. This Mobility Shop is also the CIVITAS ELAN headquarters in Porto and it is contributing to increase the project’s public visibility through the dissemination of project/measure facts and results achieved.
