CIVITAS Statement on the Green Paper on Urban Transport

The final version of the CIVITAS Statement on the European Green Paper on Urban Transport agreed by the Policy Advisory Committee Group (PAC) of the CIVITAS Initiative is now available. The PAC is a limited group of high ranking, elected political representatives of European cities and aims to generate a decisive breakthrough by supporting and evaluating the implementation of ambitious integrated sustainable urban transport strategies.
The content of this document is based on the contribution given by PAC members as well as views collected from politicians of other CIVITAS cities. Framework conditions for successfull implementation of sustainable urban transport measures haven been discussed at several internal PAC meetings since 2004. First ideas were presented at the CIVITAS Forum in Nantes (Fr) in 2005 and further discussed on a broader European level with other urban politicians and representatives of the European Commission at the CIVITAS Forum in Burgos (Es) in 2006.Jean Yates, Lancashire County Councillor, PAC Chair: As chair of the CIVITAS Policy Advisory Committee I am convinced that these discussions among leading European politicians have led to interesting conclusions, which will and provide a valuable inputs to the development of future the European transport policy.
