CIVITAS PORTIS is Inspiring Antwerp to Sustainable Mobility

On 28 November, CIVITAS PORTIS helped organise the Inspiration Day for Sustainable Mobility event in Antwerp, Belgium, one of its project cities.

Experts shared their knowledge and experiences to inspire other cities and parties to embrace sustainable transport. Mobility was not treated as an isolated field, but linked to other societal objectives, such as health, child-friendly measures, local entrepreneurship, accessible social services, environment and transport efficiency.

An effective sustainable mobility policy can greatly contribute to every one of these aspects, in the process creating a future-proofed, sustainable city environment.

Several interactive workshops were organized to stimulate discussion and knowledge sharing. Some of the topics highlighted were:

  • Mobility issues in small towns;
  • Walkable neighbourhoods;
  • Mobility and climate change;
  • Smart Ways to Antwerp, which is an active partner in CIVITAS PORTIS;
  • Transport poverty;
  • The emergence of a sharing economy.

Workshops were alternated with keynote political and academic speakers, a poetry slam, world café session, and networking possibilities.

The Inspiration Day on Sustainable Mobility is an initiative of the Network for Sustainble Mobility, an organisation supported by ‘TreinTramBus’ and the City of Antwerp. It was organised with the support of CIVITAS PORTIS the Province of Antwerp, and the Flemish government.  The event took place in DeStudio, a cultural venue in the city.
