CIVITAS cities help with procurement of clean vehicles

As part of a new European project, CIVITAS cities offer local authorities and fleet operators in Europe assistance with the procurement of clean and energy-efficient public vehicles. With Stockholm, Rotterdam, Bremen, Zagreb and Vitoria-Gasteiz, the majority of the cities in the Clean Fleets project consortium is made up of CIVITAS demonstration cities.

The cities are eager to share their experiences and help other cities across Europe to purchase clean and energy-efficient vehicles. Especially the more advanced cities have gained their expertise in the field with support from CIVITAS. Stockholm for instance has focused a great share of the measures implemented as part of CIVITAS on procuring clean vehicles and is now considered a leading authority on the topic. Rotterdam considerably expanded the share of clean vehicles in the municipal fleet and Zagreb upgraded its fleet of waste collection vehicles. They have now gathered in the Clean Fleets project to support public authorities with the implementation of the EC Clean Vehicles Directive and help to accelerate a broad market introduction of cleaner and more energy-efficient vehicles. The project will provide support with tendering, modular training, opportunities for information exchange and specific procurement advice. As part of the project, an online discussion forum will be created and materials such as case studies, guidance and tools will be developed. The project has launched a call for interest where public authorities and fleet operators can sign up for the semi-annual e-newsletter and express their interest if they would like to receive direct assistance with their procurement of public vehicles.
