„Soft Measures in Transport Planning” - with this slogan CIVITAS CARAVEL invites students and young professionals to the second unit of the CIVITAS CARAVEL Summer University! After the first unit in Burgos, Spain, the second unit will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, from May 28th to 30th, 2008. The idea of the in total four units of the CIVITAS CARAVEL Summer University is “… learning from the experiences in CIVITAS CARAVEL”. The participation is free of charge, nevertheless registration is necessary. Soft Measures in Transport Planning - with this slogan CIVITAS CARAVEL invites students and young professionals to the second unit of the CIVITAS CARAVEL Summer University! This second unit will take place in Stuttgart, Germany, from May 28th to 30th, 2008.The CIVITAS CARAVEL Summer University in Stuttgart will start on Wednesday, May 28th, 2008, with the opening lecture given by Karl Reiter from FGM-AMOR, Graz (Austria) who will give an overview on the benefit of the application of soft measures in transport planning (“Soft Policies - Little Costs, High Benefits”). In the afternoon the scientific advisors of CIVITAS CARAVEL will explain their points of view related to the topic. Among others Prof. Andrzej Rudnicki from the Technical University in Krakow (Poland) will speak on Service Quality in Public Transport, Prof. Reinhart D. Kühne, head of the Transport Studies Group at the German Aerospace Center will give his lecture Perspectives of Urban Transportation and Environment and Prof. Hernán Gonzalo from the University of Burgos (Spain) will speak on “Soft Measures, Strong Solutions: Implementation of Soft Measures in Transport in the City of Burgos and other Spanish Cities”. On Thursday, May 29th, 2008 and Friday, May 30th, 2008 the experiences from the four cities taking part in CIVITAS CARAVEL will be presented, focusing on the topics Car-Pooling (Regina Lüdert, Stuttgart), Car-Sharing (Marco Silvestri, Genoa), Mobility Forum, Sustainable Mobility Marketing (Paola Pireddu, Genoa) and Mobility Plans (Kate Nosal, Krakow). A site visit will give a more detailed view on the measures implemented in Stuttgart. Additional an exercise, the workshop Estimating the Impact of Soft Measures and presentations from other projects inside and outside of CIVITAS will complete the Summer University in Stuttgart. The closing lecture, given by Susanne Scherz from the Municipality of Stuttgart, finally will deal with Soft Measures in Stuttgart Transport Master Plan.More information about the CIVITAS CARAVEL Summer University in general and on the unit in Stuttgart in detail (program, registration, accommodation, …) is available on www.civitas-caravel.org .
