CIVITAS at the Transportation Research Board Annual Meeting

At the 97th Transport Research Board Annual Meeting, the European Commission Directorate General for Mobility and Transport (DG MOVE) and the US Department of Transportation are organising a session entitled “Sharing innovative, tested practices in sustainable urban mobility in European and US cities”. CIVITAS projects are participating.

Taking place on Wednesday 10 January in Washington D.C., the session provides an opportunity to share innovative urban mobility practices in European and US cities, and to facilitate exchange between practitioners and policymakers active in the field.

Representatives from DG MOVE, the US Department of Transportation, European and US cities, and researchers will present mobility solutions capable of driving a shift towards sustainable transport modes, as well as prompting a behavioural change amongst members of the public to use them.

Providing the US perspective will be representatives from the cities of New York, Washington, Seattle and San Francisco. On the European side, four cities will present the activities they have undertaken as part of CIVITAS projects, namely Bremen (Germany) in CIVITAS ELIPTIC, Lisbon (Portugal) in CIVITAS FLOW, Bologna (Italy) in CIVITAS EMPOWER, and Enschede (the Netherlands) in CIVITAS TRACE.

Likely topics of discussion include electrification pilots, digitalisation and modelling, and gamification to support behavioural change. The session will also explore future opportunities for cooperation between EU- and US-based organisations, researchers, companies, and policy makers.
