CIVITAS Initiative

The 2010 UNESCO Week of Sustainable Development which ran from 9-14 November focused on mobility. On 14 November, the Municipality of Monza, together with +bc Association, an association of bike lovers and mechanicals, organised a one-day workshop on bicycle repair and maintenance for regular bike riders. All day long, mechanics gave cyclists tips and explained the basic techniques on how to fix bikes, save money and have fun.

Even though it was a rainy day many people came to repair their bikes, and even the bikes of their wives and husbands, sons and lovers, mums and dads. Many simply stopped just to have a look at the fully equipped van, which housed a mobile bike shop, called Ciclomobile http://www.piubici.org/ciclomobile/ The Ciclomobile arrived in the Monza city centre with three mechanics on board from the +bc Association. They were at the disposal of Monza’s citizens, who were very enthusiastic and a lot of questions about the CIVITAS ARCHIMEDES project in Monza and its progress.
