Aiming for Sustainable Urban Mobility: A Survey of European Cities' Interests towards CIVITAS, Training Programmes and Information Resources

CIVITAS Initiative

CIVITAS VANGUARD has recently completed an assessment of CIVITAS Plus cities and Non-CIVITAS cities. The results not only provide firm foundation for CIVITAS VANGUARD&#8217 s support and dissemination activities, but also provide useful information as to:How do city decisionmakers get their information and decide what they doHow VANGUARD can penetrate that process Whether awareness of a CIVITAS measure has influenced city&#8217 s decisionmaking processes.

Results were acquired via an online survey conducted between 19th January and 20th February 2009. Published in July 2009 within a report entitled &#8220 Aiming for Sustainable Urban Mobility&#8221 , VANGUARD learned that CIVITAS Plus cities&#8217 mobility experts favour training on collective passenger transport and transport management, while project dissemination managers of CIVITAS Plus cities favour training and guidance on stakeholder consultation, marketing and branding & social inclusion. Among non-CIVITAS cities&#8217 decisionmakers and mobility experts, there is clear enthusiasm to learn from others&#8217 experiences through best practices and case studies from colleagues within and beyond city departments. Electronic newsletters and online information as sources were also popular. VANGUARD saw that interest in CIVITAS is typically driven by the potential for funding! The survey is now available for download from the link below. CIVITAS VANGUARD would like to thank all respondents for the input they gave to this work.
